General Info

Holy Matcha is a café that feels rooted in its neighborhood while still offering something a little elevated and intentional. Located at 3118 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92104, United States, this spot blends a relaxed atmosphere with a menu that’s clearly been thought through. From the moment you walk in, it feels like a place designed for slowing down-whether that means grabbing coffee with friends, opening a laptop on the Wi-Fi, or enjoying a quiet moment over a carefully made drink.

The menu leans into clean, plant-forward comfort, which makes Holy Matcha especially appealing for anyone looking for vegan options without sacrificing flavor. One of the highlights that keeps showing up in reviews is the Avocado Toast. It’s simple but satisfying, with fresh ingredients that make it feel like more than just a standard café staple. Pair it with a Waffle, and you’ve got a breakfast or brunch that feels indulgent without being heavy.

Matcha is clearly the heart of the experience here, and it shows in the drinks. The Ceremonial Matcha has a smooth, earthy depth that feels authentic and calming. If you want something a bit more playful, the Dirty Matcha Horchata brings together bold espresso notes with a creamy, lightly spiced sweetness. Another favorite is the Heavenly Matcha Latte, which lives up to its name with a balanced, comforting flavor that works any time of day.

As a café, Holy Matcha makes it easy to settle in. The dine-in experience is relaxed, the coffee program complements the matcha offerings well, and parking nearby makes visits feel stress-free. It’s the kind of place where you can come for a quick drink or stay longer and explore the menu at your own pace. The space attracts a mix of locals and visitors, which adds to the welcoming vibe without feeling crowded or rushed.

What stands out most is how consistent the experience feels. The menu, the service, and the overall energy line up in a way that builds trust. Holy Matcha doesn’t try to be everything at once-it focuses on quality, thoughtful preparation, and an atmosphere that keeps people coming back.

What customers say?

“ Cute Spot, good food! Wall decor is a little bland, so you don’t get that aesthetic photo if you are looking for that aspect! (7 tables for 2-3) not really accommodating to large groups! They have an adorable Photo Booth in the Lobby! ”

“ Ceremonial matcha was really good! Subtly sweet. Good texture. Complimented by the oat milk wonderfully. Matcha horchata was also delicious. Cinnamon forward, sweet and creamy, not too much flavor to mask the matcha. Really balanced. Had a tomato avocado toast. Really tasty, cherry tomatoes were sweet, avocado was creamy and seasoned well overall. ”

“ Holy Matcha is a must visit in North Park, from the adorable vibes indoors, amazing menu of matcha drinks (check out the specials!!), to even having Le Pink Booth? It’s a perfect spot for brunch! They allowed me to host my journal club there and it was SO much fun! Everyone loved their drinks and food and of course enjoyed the photobooth! Ooh also check out all of their cute merch! We loved all the stickers and their postcards! ”

“ I haven't been here since they first opened! That's me with the pink hair circa 9 years ago. My cousin brought me because we loved the aesthetic and I think this was one of my first experiences with matcha and avocado toast I returned here recently which coincidentally turned out to be their 9 year anniversary of being open! We came to get some cute pix of my grandma for her 95th birthday. My cousin and husband got the horchata matcha, which was really good! Not that I was surprised, but I got a classic strawberry matcha because that's been my jam lately and a concha! Both were delicious! It wasn't as busy as I expected for a Saturday, there was a pop up that day, that had baked goods inside and there were many people using the photo booth. Still love the matcha versatility and still love the aesthetic! ”
